Installing LibreOffice in Ubuntu

Install LibreOffice in Ubuntu.

This blog post is now obsolete.

At this moment repository doesn’t contain prepared packages so we will install it by hand.

LibreOffice
  1. Go directly to the download page and choose your version, package format, and architecture.

    For example use the following URL to get version 3.3.0-rc1 for x86 architecture using deb package format.

    http://download.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/testing/3.3.0-rc1/deb/x86/
  2. Download the following archive:

    LibO_3.3.0rc1_Linux_x86_install-deb_en-US.tar.gz LibO_3.3.0rc1_Linux_x86_install-deb_en-US.tar.gz.asc

    Don’t forget about language pack (if applicable):

    LibO_3.3.0rc1_Linux_x86_langpack-deb_pl.tar.gz LibO_3.3.0rc1_Linux_x86_langpack-deb_pl.tar.gz.asc
  3. Import code signing key by executing the following command:

    $ gpg --keyserver hkp://keys.gnupg.net --recv-keys AFEEAEA3

    Verify all downloaded archives:

    $ gpg --verify LibO_3.3.0rc1_Linux_x86_install-deb_en-US.tar.gz.asc  LibO_3.3.0rc1_Linux_x86_install-deb_en-US.tar.gz
    $ gpg --verify LibO_3.3.0rc1_Linux_x86_langpack-deb_pl.tar.gz.asc  LibO_3.3.0rc1_Linux_x86_langpack-deb_pl.tar.gz
  4. Extract the main archive and install Libre Office packages:

    $ tar xvfz LibO_3.3.0rc1_Linux_x86_install-deb_en-US.tar.gz $ cd LibO_3.3.0rc1_Linux_x86_install-deb_en-US/DEBS $ sudo dpkg -i *.deb $ sudo dpkg -i desktop-integration/libreoffice3.3-debian-menus_3.3-3_all.deb

    Extract the localization archive and install remaining packages:

    $ tar xvfz LibO_3.3.0rc1_Linux_x86_langpack-deb_pl.tar.gz $ cd LibO_3.3.0rc1_Linux_x86_langpack-deb_pl/DEBS $ sudo dpkg -i *.deb
  5. Download preferred dictionary.

    To install it start Libre Office, open the Tools menu, and select Extension Manager.

  6. Remove Open Office:

    sudo apt-get remove openoffice*
  7. Done.
